Barclays Motor Insurance

Have to hand:

  • Car registration number 
  • Your drivers licence 
  • Your card for payment 

To be able to complete a Barclays Motor Insurance quote online, you must be able to confirm that:

  • You are a UK resident, (excluding Northern Ireland), the registered owner of the vehicle, and the main driver. 
  • Your car is registered and kept in Great Britain, Isle of Man and Channel Isles only 
  • You and you drivers are under 75 years of age 
  • You and your drivers have advised the DVLA of any notifiable illness or disability and they have agreed to the issue of a licence 
  • You and your drivers hold a current, valid UK driving licence 
  • No driver has had more than one loss or claim in the last four years 
  • You or your drivers do not have more than one of these motoring convictions in the last 5 years, or been disqualified from driving in the past 5 years 
  • No driver has had any criminal convictions (other than for the motoring offences above) been refused insurance or had any terms imposed 
  • No driver of the vehicle will require business use in relation to a driving occupation e.g. Taxi driver, courier, motor trader etc. 
  • No driver of the vehicle is a professional sports person, actor, actress, model, childminder, circus/fairground worker or TV/radio presenter 
  • Your car is not modified, or registered before 1960

Your BUPA Heartbeat personal health plan is made up of the health care select options you choose for you and your dependants, together with any additional cover options chosen. Each health care select option is different so it is important you refer to the relevant fact sheet for each health care select option.

This fact sheet is only intended to provide you with a summary of the benefits offered by health care select 1.

It is intended to help focus your thoughts on the most appropriate type of private medical insurance (PMI) cover for you. All PMI providers will give you this information, in the same format.

You are also advised to read the ABI's consumer guide, 'Are you buying private medical insurance?', in order to obtain a general view of PMI, if you have not already done so.

What is health care select 1?

Health care select 1 offers you cover for private medical treatment in the UK by BUPA-recognised consultants, therapists and practitioners. It provides cover for eligible out-patient consultations, diagnostic tests, and hospital in-patient and day-patient treatment, as well as for therapies, psychiatric conditions and complementary medicine. Eligible treatment for cancer is also fully covered.

Health care select 1 allows you to choose between three levels of hospital access - local, national or extended. Your personal health adviser will help you decide which option is right for you. Please note the list of hospitals on each option may change from time to time.

To further tailor your cover to your specific needs, you may also choose to have any of the following additional cover options in addition to health care select 1:

  • healthy man, healthy woman 
  • health check 
  • convalescence care 

Features specific to BUPA Heartbeat health care select 1

Are there any exclusions particular to health care select 1?

In addition to the general exclusions detailed in the Association of British Insurers' guide 'Are you buying private medical insurance?', BUPA Heartbeat health care select 1 will not cover you for:

  • Treatment for conditions or symptoms arising from physiological or natural causes (eg ageing, menopause or puberty) or to desensitise allergies 
  • Convalescence 
  • Routine health checks or dental/oral treatment (eg fillings, gum disease) 
  • Overseas treatment or repatriation 
  • Critical care (except when it is routinely needed as part of eligible private treatment and is carried out in a BUPA Heartbeat hospital with a recognised critical care unit) 
  • Sleep-related breathing disorders 
  • Treatment related to learning, behavioural or developmental problems 
  • Speech disorders

Your choice of hospital access

You can choose for you and your dependants which option of BUPA Heartbeat hospitals you require - local, national or extended hospital access. Your personal health adviser will help you decide which option is right for you and your dependants. Hospitals may change from time to time.

24-hour HealthLine information service

As a member of BUPA Heartbeat, you, and any dependants covered under your plan, will have access to the BUPA HealthLine service - a free and completely confidential source of professional support and information on health and care - 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Additional choices

You have a choice of four additional cover options to help tailor your personal health plan to your own and your family's individual needs and circumstances.

Special coverage

BUPA Heartbeat health care select 1 covers you for eligible private hospital treatment following an accident or emergency admission. Organ transplants are also covered.

Is there a maximum that I can claim in any one year?

There is no annual maximum on the amount you can claim for eligible private treatment each year under BUPA Heartbeat health care select 1, except where we specify a limit on a particular benefit.

Is a claims excess available?

If you decide to buy BUPA Heartbeat health care select 1, you will be able to choose whether or not you want a claims excess to apply to the policy. If you do choose an excess, you will be able to select from one of the following amounts:- £100, £150, £200, £250, £500, £1,000, or £2,000.
